Ceramic Teacher

Your Role

At Disco Wheel, we create immersive pottery experiences where creativity, atmosphere and human connection come together.

As a Ceramic Teacher, your mission is not only to teach, but to guide each session with confidence, warmth and energy - ensuring every participant feels welcomed, engaged and inspired throughout the experience.

You will play a key role in shaping the overall atmosphere of the studio, balancing technical guidance with a strong sense of hospitality and attention to detail.

Your Key Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Conduct high quality classes providing knowledge and skills to students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Foster a conductive, dynamic and inspiring learning atmosphere within the studio's artistic setting.
  • Ensure a positive, friendly and inclusive environment with a strong sense of community during all workshop sessions
  • Provide an outstanding experience to all workshop attendees - beyond only technical instruction, creating a welcoming and creative environment where every participant feels valued and supported. It involves personalised attention ensuring attendees leave with a sense of accomplishment, joy, and a lasting positive impression.

✨ Studio Operations and Coordination

  • Work closely with the Operations Manager, Studio Coordinator and other Ceramic Teachers to ensure workshop operations align with Disco Wheel's overall vision
  • Liaise with the studio coordinator and support them before, during and after each session.
  • Support Studio Coordinator keeping track of stock of materials and supplies.
  • Organise the finish, glazing and firing of ceramic pieces according to Studio Coordinator's guidance.
  • Support the production of Disco Wheel's ceramic pieces for the shop or any other retail requests.
  • Open and/or close the studio daily.
  • Adhere exemplary to established schedules and codes of practice.
  • Adhere exemplary to cash management procedures and guidelines.

Studio Maintenance and Preparation:

  • Organise workshop areas and materials, keeping the space clean and equipment tidy at all times.
  • Make sure clay is prepared and the workshop area is set up ahead of each workshop.
  • Organise storage of attendees' ceramic pieces following Studio Coordinator's guidance.

Attendees' Support:

  • Organise and serve drinks during the workshops.
  • Support the organisation of shipping and delivery of workshop pieces to the attendees.
  • Support Sales Manager and our boutique shop activities as needed.

✅ Your Core Skills

  • At least 1 year of teaching experience.
  • Good knowledge of ceramic techniques and processes.
  • Good knowledge of the pottery wheel technique.
  • Interested and knowledgeable about arts and ceramics.
  • Excellent communicator with a can do attitude.
  • Great organisational skills.
  • Flexible and comfortable to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing work environment
  • Familiar with computer tools (Excel, Word, Gmail, etc).
  • Attention to detail
  • Written and oral fluency in Portuguese and English, additional languages are a plus.
