Scope: Unsecured Lending (Cash Loans, Consolidation, Credit Cards, etc.) – Portugal

We are currently seeking a Credit Analyst (Retail Underwriting) based in Portugal to focusing on unsecured consumer lending products.

### What you will be doing?

* Review and assess credit applications: Review credit applications for unsecured retail products such as cash loans, credit cards, and other consumer lending products requiring manual underwriting for the Portuguese market.
* Evaluate creditworthiness: Assess applicants’ creditworthiness, financial situation, and repayment capacity using established underwriting criteria, local market insights, and credit bureau data, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite and policies.
* Make decisions or recommendations: Approve, decline, or request additional documentation based on your analysis, providing clear and well-documented rationale for each decision.
* Maintain portfolio quality: Monitor portfolio performance and ensure credit quality remains within acceptable risk thresholds. Identify early warning signals and flag potential concerns.
* Ensure compliance: Ensure all credit decisions comply with internal policies, Portuguese regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
* Collaborate with other teams: Work closely with sales, risk, compliance, and collections teams to ensure a smooth and consistent underwriting process for the Portuguese market.
* Recommend policy changes: Analyze trends, portfolio performance, and market developments to propose adjustments to underwriting policies and risk parameters.
* Suggest process improvements: Identify inefficiencies in manual underwriting processes and recommend solutions to improve turnaround time, accuracy, and scalability.
* Data querying and reporting: Use basic SQL skills (BigQuery) to analyze application data and portfolio performance, prepare reports, and share insights with stakeholders.(not mandatory).
Skills you should have

* Experience: \+5 years of experience in retail credit underwriting (preferably within banking or financial services), with exposure to unsecured lending products.
* Strong analytical skills: Ability to assess financial data, credit bureau reports, and other risk indicators to evaluate creditworthiness.
* Attention to detail: Strong ability to identify risk factors, inconsistencies, and potential fraud indicators.
* Decision-making capability: Confidence and accountability in making credit decisions or providing clear recommendations.
* Understanding of credit risk: Solid knowledge of credit risk management principles and unsecured retail lending products.
* Basic SQL skills: Ability to query databases (BigQuery) to support reporting, analysis, and process improvement initiatives. (not mandatory).
* Communication skills: Clear and structured verbal and written communication, especially when documenting credit decisions.
* Time management: Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
* Team player: Strong collaboration skills and willingness to work across functions and geographies.
* Regulatory knowledge: Understanding of retail lending regulations and compliance standards.
