Full-time Indústria/Produção
Descrição da Vaga
Join us and dive into the inner workings of wind turbines— from advanced power electronics to electromechanical systems.

In this specialist position, you will drive the strategic direction of Vestas’ Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), which control critical systems such as the yawing of the turbine nacelle, cooling fans, and hydraulic pumps. You will gain broad insight across key functional areas, including industrial control panels, Control systems, power conversion, sensors, and actuators.

If this sounds like the challenge you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you!

Vestas Technology \& Operations \> Research \& Development (R\&D) \> Control Units \& Electronics

Vestas Technology \& Operations (VTO) is the integrated CTO and COO organization within Vestas, encompassing the full industrial value chain — from Research \& Development, Procurement and Manufacturing to Supply Chain and Quality. VTO’s mission is to transform the way Vestas engineers, sources, contracts, manufactures and delivers its products to consistently meet the highest standards for quality, cost efficiency and time-to-market.

Control Units \& Electronics team delivers control hardware and low-voltage electronics (incl. VHDL and firmware) across the turbine portfolio. You will work with a collaborative team in Denmark and Portugal, spanning roadmaps, development, and product maturation with sourcing and global manufacturing, while contributing to cross-functional design across turbine platforms.

Responsibilities

As a Functional Lead within Drives, you will be responsible for:

* Drive the VFD strategy and roadmap. Lead standardization and support modularization and architecture development across the functional area
* Provide technical oversight and design sign-off for VFD and drive system designs
* Lead key technical development within power electronics and drive control, including converters/inverters, switching strategies, thermal design, and control algorithms
* Selecting and integrating VFD suppliers, covering specification, technical evaluation, qualification, and testing
* Collaborating cross‑functionally with software, mechanical, quality, and test teams
* Monitoring drive performance in prototypes and fleet installations, driving continuous improvements and corrective actions
* Translating system‑level requirements into drive and VFD solutions. Driving systems engineering and simulation methodologies within the functional area

In summary, you will be responsible for both the development of high‑performance drive systems and the integration of supplier‑provided VFD solutions, ensuring Vestas wind turbines are equipped with reliable, efficient, and industry‑leading drive technologies.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a closely related field
* Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience
* Solid experience in power electronics, including converters and motor drive systems; hands‑on experience with the development or integration of VFDs for industrial applications
* Solid understanding of drive control theory, including motor control and closed‑loop regulation, with proficiency in simulation and modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, or equivalent platforms
* Experience working with external suppliers or partners, including defining technical requirements and validating deliverables
* Full professional proficiency in English, enabling effective communication in a global, cross‑functional, and multicultural engineering environment

Competencies

* Stakeholder management capabilities and effective collaboration skills
* Excellent teamwork and communication abilities
