The project: Mace consult is delivering a landmark national infrastructure programme in Lisbon - a multibillion‑euro, multi‑modal transport investment that will shape the city for generations. We are seeking an experienced Senior Health and Safety Manager to lead and execute the project’s health and safety strategy, ensuring the highest standards of safety, wellbeing and compliance across this major programme.
You’ll be responsible for:* Partnering with senior leaders to drive cost‑effective, efficient and high‑quality health and safety performance.
* Implementing health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) policies, procedures, guidance notes and standards across the programme.
* Directing and conducting audits and inspections, supporting the resolution of non‑conformities raised during internal and third‑party audits.
* Contributing to the development of new HSW standards and ensure ongoing compliance across all workstreams.
* Analysing audit results, corrective actions and KPIs, identifying gaps and recommending improvements for continuous enhancement.
* Ensuring incident investigations are completed promptly, with lessons learned shared across relevant teams.
* Providing leadership and direction to a team of Managers and HSW Professionals, ensuring the right structures, tools and capabilities are in place to deliver excellence.
* Directing performance management, professional development and coaching within the team.
* Supporting the programme’s commitment to net‑zero carbon by proactively identifying and managing emissions and reduction opportunities during delivery.
You’ll need to have:* Strong understanding of HSW legislation, compliance and delivery within relevant industry sectors.
* Experience improving management systems and supporting certification processes.
* Knowledge of assurance, audit strategies, risk management and mitigation.
* Proven ability to develop team members’ HSW competencies.
* Confident presenting complex technical information to non‑technical audiences.
* Demonstrated experience leading and managing health, safety and wellbeing functions and achieving measurable results.
* Working knowledge of relevant legislation and industry best practice.
* Experience contributing to the development of HSW policy and standards.
* Membership of relevant industry forums or professional bodies is desirable.
