We are looking for a Mortgage Credit Analyst to join us at this pivotal moment, share our vision, and help shape the future of European banking.What you will be doing?

* Review and assess mortgage applications: Perform manual underwriting of residential mortgage applications for the Portuguese market, including property purchase and refinancing.
* Evaluate creditworthiness and affordability: Analyze applicants’ income, employment stability, debt obligations, credit bureau data, and repayment capacity in line with Portuguese mortgage lending practices and internal risk appetite.
* Collateral and property assessment: Review property valuations, LTV ratios, legal documentation, and collateral-related risks specific to the Portuguese market.
* Make decisions or recommendations: Approve, decline, or request additional documentation, ensuring decisions are well-supported and aligned with credit policy.
* Ensure portfolio quality: Monitor mortgage portfolio risk indicators and ensure adherence to portfolio quality standards.
* Ensure compliance: Ensure underwriting decisions comply with Portuguese regulatory requirements, mortgage consumer protection laws, and internal policies.
* Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with sales, risk, legal, valuation providers, and operations teams to ensure a consistent and compliant underwriting process.
* Policy optimization: Contribute to refinement of underwriting criteria and mortgage credit policies based on portfolio performance, regulatory changes, and market trends.
* Process improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline manual underwriting processes and improve efficiency without compromising risk quality.
* Data analysis and reporting: Use SQL (BigQuery) to analyze application trends and portfolio performance, supporting data-driven decision-making. (not mandatory)
Skills you should have

* Experience: \+5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or secured retail lending
* Mortgage underwriting knowledge: Strong understanding of secured lending principles, affordability assessment, LTV limits, and collateral evaluation.
* Analytical skills: Ability to analyze financial documentation, income sources, credit bureau data, and property-related information.
* Attention to detail: Strong focus on accuracy and completeness of documentation.
* Decision-making capability: Ability to make sound credit decisions or provide structured recommendations.
* Understanding of credit risk: Solid grasp of mortgage credit risk management and portfolio monitoring.
* Basic SQL skills: Experience using SQL (BigQuery) for reporting and analysis.(not mandatory).
* Communication skills: Clear written and verbal communication skills in a cross-border working environment.
* Time management: Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
* Team player: Strong collaboration skills and willingness to work across functions and geographies.
* Regulatory knowledge: Understanding of Portuguese mortgage and consumer credit regulations (highly desirable).
* Language skills: Must be able to communicate well in
